Missing a bit of side molding on my 85 scottsdale...

Have not been able to find any that match the OEM. Anyone got a lead? Only need a couple feet of it for behind passenger side rear tire! Not going to strip all the OG stuff so I can match! Maybe someone has a parts rig they could yank it off? Been keeping an eye out local for rigs getting parted out but no luck yet!

You talking about the black with 2 chrome strips? If so, this is what I found (I have the same truck). Once in awhile it appears on ebay too.

I find that only the upper trim levels pieces are reproduced the Silverado side molding but not Scottsdale etc.

Went thru the same thing with my truck it should have this trim, but no one reproduces it.

I bought a roll of the stuff from Amazon.

Looks damn close but I don’t have any original. My truck has been painted a couple times prior to this restoration. We replaced that molding years ago with stuff we bought at a body supply place. That stuff was exact but that was 25 years ago

Ya I grabbed a small section of the amazon stuff...not close enough where it butts up to OG molding unfortunately. Its getting sent back...rather find some oem stuff!

I've got a couple NOS pieces, but I believe they are for a short bed. I'd have to measure.

Id even take a chunk off a door and cut it down to fit! Truck is far from perfect but its all original! I think that banged up quarter will look better with some proper trim stuck above it hahaha

In very recent research on the moldings, I found that as time went on, GM offered less specific pieces of the trim as replacements. Many were listed as "may be cut to fit".

We painted my 1987 in 1992 or 1993 because the paint was peeling and GM paid to repaint. Precut pieces at that point were non existent so good luck finding any today. The older stuff on a roll was pretty much identical to original.

Here is a pic I snapped of the amazon stuff (and most of the other aftermarket molding I believe) compared to OEM scottsdale stuff.
Aftermarket on left...texture is off and the chrome is about half the width top n bottom.

Yeah, I remember the older stuff on a roll too. You could get most every type of molding on a roll and it was nearly identical, if not identical, to the factory stuff you were replacing.

But apparently all that quality stuff is long gone. The stuff now is not the same as the old aftermarket stuff.

I have 2 pieces of this stuff. Unfortunately, they are both only 20" long. They are old. The part# on the packaging was superseded by another number in '85. One thing I never realized before, there's actually an "up" side to the molding (the side with a bevel is the top). I do not remember the quality aftermarket stuff on a roll having that feature.

and I am wondering if trying to get it all to match, should someone buy all new,

in your pic it seems that the bumper-material is tire rubber, and the replacement is vinyl

other than that....not sure if anyone is walking pick / pulls, or if you got such with any square-bodies to see, ...some have inventory / pictures of the beasts online
(in my neck of the woods,...snowing, muddy and sloppy this time of year, ...but at least picking a trim section off is easy,...just like loosing it off the side while driving down the road).
