Falken makes decent tires. An aggressive A/T should be over 16/32” tread depth new. I think I’ve seen a few that are 15/32”…
Never heard anything about the Rubitrek, but the AT4W is pretty well rated.
Ya I always hone in on tread depth too. More is better…for obvious reasons.
What I’ve seen is many tire models may have 15-16/32 in the XL load versions but when you step up to LT tires the tread depth goes up to 17-19/32 sometimes.
When comparing price difference between identical XL and LT tires it often isn’t much $. And if you’re buying them for the long haul, on a lighter vehicle (midsize or half ton) they will last MUCH longer. More than just the extra couple 32nds of tread depth would provide. They’re generally also a harder compound rubber (a 1 ton diesel would eat the softer rubber for lunch) which adds alot to tire life on a lighter weight vehicle.
Now it also reduces traction a bit apples to apples. But that is easily rectified with a bit lower tire pressure in the wet/snow season or if that’s not enough, siping the tires will soften them up a good amount without measurably reducing tread life.
Best snow tires I’ve had (short of actual snow tires) on any truck but speaking for light trucks 1/2 tons is a set of LRE all terrains (fill in your favorite model of tire), siped all the way across (or even just inside treads) and drop the tire pressure to around min safe. And the stiffer side walls compensate a little for the lower pressure.
