If you are cruising down the highway and can tap the brakes just barely enough to light the brake lights, and the RPM's increase then the lockup is working. The factory engineered it to engage at other speeds too, but steady speeds in OD is the only time you need it, and also the only time it's beneficial to mileage.

Jep !!! True That !!! And it's actually not good to be cycling locked and unlocked, unlocked and locked etc. It is a good feature to have though for cruising speeds on highways or interstates.

When I tested it, it felt like a downshift. So as a experiment I shifted from od to d and it felt the same. Is this what I should be feeling? Also when shifting I only feel 3 gear changes.

I remember my first car was a 85 Pontiac 6000, it only had a 3sp trans w/ locking torque converter and that always felt like another shift when it locked.

So you're saying Od felt the same as d or it felt the same as a downshift? What rear gear does your truck have? If it's a tall 3.08 or 2.73 gear ratio, you may not see OD or 4th unless you on the freeway doing 55 or 60 mph.

As with your Poncho 6000, the lock up should actually feel like another shift. Very slight, but a shift nontheless. If you're getting 3 shifts, then you're probably getting OD and maybe not getting Lock Up.

3.42 gearing.

Pressing brake and gas at 45-50 felt like just a downshift. And yes only feeling 3 shifts. I'm going to buy a cheap tach so i can see rpm and hopefully a lockup. But with most of the computer stuff disconnected, I have a feeling i won't see the lockup correct?

tach should be here tomorrow.

what kind of RPM should I be seeing in OD with 3.42 gearing, and with TCC locked up?

also, seem to have 2 close but different sized tires on the truck. 31x10.5r15 on the front and 265/75r15 in the back. will it make much difference or should I look to getting same sized tires (probably used) in the nearer future.
