Hey y'all, I'm new to the square body. Bought myself a 1973 K20. The previous owner has done a 383 stroker kit on it with several other after market parts I'm still gathering information on. He used the motor in a different platform as a drag racing motor.

Since I've gotten it, I've had the rear shocks and cab mount bushings replaced, a Hooker brand exhaust with flowmaster mufflers and a new front drive shaft installed. The heater core is being replaced and the transmission filter was replaced too. My buddy who's helping me do the work is testing the motor currently and saying the head gasket may be leaking some air.

We'll likely be pulling the motor to do a full once over on it and replace everything that needs replacing. With that being said, here is a list of other things I plan to do once the motor is pulled. More experienced people mind taking a look at letting me know your thoughts? Am I missing or overlooking something? Let me know what you think!

- Gasket Kit (FEL-260-1000)

- Motor mounts

- Tcase bushings

- Upper radiator hose (mmhose-gm-11u)

- Lower rad hose (MMHOSE-GM-12L)

- ARP head studs (134-4001)

- ARP engine bolt kit (534-9801)

Hello and welcome from NC. The parts you have listed look like they may work. Show us some pics of the K20 please.

Welcome. don't order your engine gasket set until you have the heads off. Then let us know where the pistons are parked in there bores. We can make a better head gasket choice with that info. Too much deck clearance makes the engine octane sensitive.

Nice! Looks to have good bones!
I thought so too!

I eventually want to sand blast, bondo, and rhino line the floor boards. Previous owners self tap screwed license plates to the floor for the aesthetic.

Lot's of wants for this Ole girl. But more than anything I just want her running well enough I can actually drive the thing with a moderate level of safety.

So!

To those more experienced with these trucks than I. Anything missing from my list? Anything that might be more beneficial to replace while the motor is out?

When the motor is out, spend the time to paint, keep it from rusting and easier to clean and makes you happy every time you get in there.
