So i have a 81 chevy c10, and i cant figure this out. Need help.
The ignition seems to have this connecting rod that goes across to the other side. And there is a gear missing… took apart one on a 87 but it was completely different… can someone tell me where i may be able to find one of these little gears? Would be very helpful…

Did someone try to steal your truck? Or did you break that portion of the column to get to the missing gear?

That wire there, is a spring that helps hold things together. You can get new gears and spring at your local auto parts store. HELP Section usually has some. I went through this on my Jeep Cherokee. Watch some videos and have them cued up when you do start tearing apart the column. And, looking at your column, you probably need a replacement piece for that section that has the hole in it.

I don't remember which thread it's in, but do a search, because there is a write-up, or link to a write up on how do a full rebuild on these columns. That write up and videos will get you there.
