Hood release cable

I am having trouble finding the correct hood release cable for my ‘79 C10
I got a Dorman 912-020 and it is 1” shorter than my original, and won’t come close to fitting.
Dorman swears it is the correct cable, anyone ran into this? I bought this truck new in 79 and it was getting hard to pull.

I haven't replaced mine but I did notice the other day that auto metal direct sells them.

The cable AND sheath is 1" shorter, or the cable protrudes 1" less from the sheath?

Also, did you make sure it was actually the cable itself that was making it harder to pull? A latch adjustment and lube can make a big difference.

Lube the latch below the hood and confirm it isn't sticking.
If your existing cable has stretched, you can take some washers, clamp them in a vice and cut a slice thru one end. Then use them to take up the gap on the cable end and squeeze them closed with some channel locks.

The wire in the housing is an inch shorter than my original.
The latch works smoothly- my original cable housing is splitting open (due to being 44 years old) I’ve tried to lube the old cable and put it back in. I really don’t want to convert it to an outside latch.

I don't *think* I have an extra, but I'll check to be sure. I've got a few 70's trucks with the inside release and the cables are still in fine shape. If that's any indicator, a good used cable may be your best bet.

I have an '85 M1028 & '86 M1008, and replaced the hood latch on both of them. I initially bought a Dorman hood release cable from my local O'Reillys, but the firewall was completely different, and I was absolutely unimpressed with Dorman stuff in-general.

I ended up buying two (2) new cables from Brothers Trucks/Holley, and they worked perfectly for my trucks.
