I have been able to pick them up at the local car parts store. Not that I didn’t experience any problems. PITA
Then there is LMC

I've tried the chain stores. I'm not looking for the bucket adjusters, I need these little pieces that snap into the buckets that the retainer screws into. LMC doesn't have them. Your picture is the 81-88 and mine is a 90 Squarebody. They sell everything but the actual plastic insert.

It's what snaps into the bucket that screw #4, threads into. Earlier trucks are self tapping

Can you use sheet metal clip nuts?

I think that's what I'd try.

Yeah, but smaller. They are available in oodles of sizes.

Do the retainer rings use #6 or #8 screws? Whichever it is, you will want clips designed for that size of screw.

These were most likely supplied by Auveco. They supplied many manufacturers.

Also, I'd bet the farm that GM used the very same clips in many other applications before and after those particular headlight buckets were in use.

What size are the holes?

Turbo4whl has a good suggestion. Not sure of your hole size but I'm thinking 80's grille mounting nuts would b the same. My 84 uses them in the grille and in the sheet metal too. About 5/16" or so square hole.

Update: Problem solved.
Thank you all!

I went to 2 different O'Reilly's & Autozone and couldn't find these. I happened to check again and found an open pack(4 out of 6) and bought them to try. They are a bit snug but work. I ended up going on Amazon and buying a 30 pack for $8 as I need 16 for the headlights and looks like they are correct for the grill.
