Finally got a running 65 C10

Those three are green, yellow and brown if I recall correctly, and luckily they plug in at the firewall. Not the bulkhead, but their own plug.

A new fuse block would be good. That's cool you have a source for one. Probably uses modern fuses too

Yeah once I lost lights back there and that was unplugged for some reason. Not the problem this time

I screwed the fuse block back to the wall last night, the angle of the dangle must be correct because the lights are still working. I tried jiggling all the wires and everything and it’s staying on. Thinking about wiring up a small indicator light in the cab that I can watch, I can run my lights while driving during the day and as long as that indicator light is on, I know I have tail and brake lights. Really wanting to do that 2 hour trip this afternoon.

Headed to O’Reillys to see if they have an upper radiator hose, tried trimming the one I have and sure enough it has a damn wire in it. So much for a trimmable hose as they advertised. I cut the wire and it looked like it would go on, but it just won’t with the ribbed part inside.

What @doudingo was trying to let you know was the brake lights go through the turn signal switch. The turn signal and the brake light use the same wire to the bulbs,so if the wires going into or out of the column are messed up you can loose brake lights or turn signals or both. Also if the switch is wearing out you can also.

I perused my photos to see if I could get a part number off the upper hose, but I can't find a photo that shows the part number. Hopefully they had a flex hose with the correct length to get you back on the road.

You'd be surprised the problems they can cause. You can track down all kinds of gremlins, and still have issues with the brake lights, taillights, and turn signals if the turn signal switch is bad. I went through that on my 81, cleaned all the connections, grounds, sockets, replaced bulbs that needed replacing and still had problems. Replaced the turn signal switch and everything worked as it should. If everything is working now, you're golden, just keep in mind it could be the turn signal switch if all has been looked at and there's still problems.

2 different oreillys and found a hose, long straight trimmable thing, 100 bucks but knew the manager so she gave me someone’s shop discount, still 57 dollars but oh well needed it and it’s a gates I think.

I realized that I don’t need to wire up an indicator light to make sure I still have tail lights, as long as I hit either blinker, and the dash light comes on, that tells me I have panel lights and therefore tail and brake lights.

Been getting the truck ready for the trip this afternoon, got my toolbox, floor jack, impact, no spare but at least I could take it off the truck to get a patch, my wife is driving my company truck to the same place so I’ll have a ride if I need it.

I’m really liking American auto wire I keep hearing all kinds of good things about them. If nothing else pay the 400 and get the entire under dash set

I highly recommend checking what this guy has done.... Do a search for lugnutz65chevystepside. He has some pretty awesome step by step procedures that should help you out with your steering column if you need it.

100 bucks for a stinking hoses?! WOW! Even 57 is too much.

I went with painless when I did mine, only because that was only thing I saw back then. If I have to do it again, it'll be American Auto Wire. I would highly recommend rewiring the truck bumper to bumper, you'd be surprised how much better everything works after that. All fresh circuits, new wires, new connections, etc.
