Not really, I tried to make it work but had to cut it. Wouldn’t it “burn valves” driving it open headers for length of time?
It may warp a valve if it's really cold outside and a breeze is blowing right into the header, but not a burnt valve. Like @Ricko1966 said, open headers are ran all over the place. I believe @bucket has run a rig uncorked to get an exhaust system installed before, maybe he can chime in on his experience.

Awesome thanks guys. Yeah my stepdad has several drag cars open headers but I never knew if they were different due to being race engines lol

Yep, I sure did. When I engine swapped my C10, I drove it for a while with open headers. Some in chilly weather too. Must have been several hundred miles.

I thought the passenger side header would be a breeze compared to the drivers. No. Almost more of a pain. Starter had to come out, and truck had to be jacked up as high as the jack would go plus a block. Scraped the header all to hell and back getting it in from the bottom, and there was like 1/4” of play to get it past the frame. I always thought these older trucks had more room for things but that’s not the case, squares are so much easier to work on. Then, the last back header bolt had to be turned by open end wrench from the bottom an 1/8 of a turn at a time. Took forever. Getting the clip and lock on it is going to be a challenge.

That cross member for the bellhousing mounts doesn't help either. If you ever get sick of the headers, I'd highly recommend the center dump manifolds for this rig.

For sure.

Also noticed I have a valve cover gasket leak on the passenger side in the very back. That will have to be fixed. Off work now headed to get a manual choke cable for this thing. Until I can get something better

Got the header bolts locking clips finished. Starter, plugs and wires back in. Manual choke cable in. Then, I cranked the truck with it choked and it was so damn loud with open headers I just shut it off. I live in a HOA now and didn’t wanna do that to my neighbors. I’m going to get a friend of mine to tell me out of the neighborhood so I can crank it and let it warm up before I drive it for exhaust.

Pulled the key out of the ignition, starting cleaning up and an hour later realized I couldn’t find the key. I’ve looked literally everywhere. And every toolbox drawer that I put tools in, engine, bay, cab, bed, under the truck, in my work truck, in the house, I took all the contents out of the trashcan outside twice. I’m almost positive. I threw it away because the first thing I did after I took that key out was start picking up small bits of trash like tie wrap ends and stuff. The garbage truck came and picked up last night. It wasn’t until I got home later from a birthday party that I thought I should have metal detected the contents With with my metal detector. I’m almost certain I threw it away. That’s the only place it could be.

In another hour, I’m going to call Bruce’s locksmith in town. I spoke to Carr’s locksmith last night and they said Bruce could make me a key so let’s hope. I hate to have to change out the ignition in both door handles because that one key did all of them. Always something.

Autozone tach looks good

Ah, HOA. Yeah that wouldn't be good, lol.
Yeah kinda sucks. We moved from 5 acres to this. I’ve gotten half a dozen letters from the HOA about silly things like parking my low boy trailer in the driveway for over 24 hours. It’s always gone before I even get the damn letter. Last Halloween I put a skeleton in the window above my garage for decoration. I didn’t remove it until like February and I got a letter about it. So this year I put him back up there and taped the letter to his hands lol. I put it on the neighborhood Facebook page with the caption “A Weaponized HOA is scarier than Halloween” and it got a lot of attention. Many people said it was their kids favorite decoration. We all knew we were signing up to live here, but most people really dislike how militant the HOA is. Some even are calling for trying to abolish it. On the flipside, the neighborhood looks nice. Resale values stay high and homes sell quickly. There’s a similar neighborhood called Westwood about a mile down the road without an HOA. Yards are messy, somebody has a classic Mustang sitting in the front yard rotting away with fender height weeds around it lol. I guess it’s just what you want to deal with With. This is definitely not a permanent place for us. I’m just getting along until I can get out.

I have a locksmith coming after lunch to make me a new key. $165 that should’ve gone to the exhaust shop. Kicking myself in the ass about that but it is what it is at this point. I’ll have him make me a copy.

You will probably find the key 10 minutes :33: after the locksmith leaves. Also have him make a few extra??

A costly mistake. Just glad he was able to do it. Luckily the ignition popped right out of the dash after the lock ring was unscrewed, he said some of them don’t

Cranked the truck up and drive it out of the neighborhood. Let it sit running for while. So effing loud. But it just doesn’t seem to run right. Almost like a vacuum leak but I can’t find one. Like it’ll run low low rpms and then all of a sudden spike and run high for awhile. It never really gets that nice cam sound, either way too low rpm or like you’re holding your foot on the gas a little
