...and if that's the original cat it would be pretty loud. At 150k miles I was having trouble passing the smog tests. Found out the cat was just a burned out shell, new high-flow cat and it sails through the sniffer no problem.
If I keep my truck under 5,000 mi / yr I don't have to worry about the sniffer, it's exempt, but they want to see a cat under there. I am sure it's the original.

You can always put a hollowed out cat under there. They won't check the insides of the cat :naughty:

Sweet. So it's 3" in & out, and is the a center inlet and off-set outlet then?

Did it match the original pipes ok? Length wise it was good?

Inlet is off-center, outlet is on-center. Doesn't matter though since you can hook it up backwards and it works the same. I didn't worry about fitment because I had the muffler guy replace everything from the cat on back. You can check the specs on the link I posted to see if it will be close to the original.

I don't know how to tackle this. I thought those pipes would be reuseable. Maybe that rust at the clamps is just on the surface?

What it looks like to me (and I could be wrong) is that you're going to have to replace those pipes as well. You can get them from any auto parts store (autozone, o'reillys, napa,...) along with the clamps and do it yourself if you want. IMO, it's not ideal because I like mine welded on but it would save you quite a bit of money and would allow you to do it in your driveway. I helped my dad do this very thing on my grandma's 91 Caprice just a few months ago. It's not real hard to tackle but is time consuming. As rusty as the existing clamps are you'll most likely need to just cut the pipe off rather than trying to unbolt the clamps.

Yeah, someone's done work on it in the past most likely due to patching together new pipe to replace rusted out sections.

I'll definately have to cut/grind the clamps off and the pipes. I'll just have to get everything. I need to get this **** fixed this weekend. I won't be using those clamps to put together though, I'll be using these::High 5:

I'll re-use that converter, even if I got to stab it with a new piece of pipe, lol....

Both are great ideas!! :High 5: Converters are expensive enough that you definitely don't want to replace those unless you absolutely have to ;) I think you're on the right track. So are you going to just exit it just straight out the back like you'd mentioned before? Have you decided what muffler you're going with yet?
