Does anyone know if it’s possible to swap a cam while the engine is in the truck? I was originally planning on dropping a crate engine or maybe even an 8.1 in my truck but due to other projects and time constraints that’s just gonna have to wait. I’m planning on vortec Heads, an Intake manifold, fitech and a cam if I can do it while the engines in the truck. I don’t wanna pull the core support out.

Absolutely, piece of cake. Can even do it with the intake on if you get those little magnet deals, but I don't trust them lol.

Yes it is possible, ye sit is a big PITA leaning over the truck and crawling around in the engine bay, I recommend pulling the engine.. I am just finishing up the same swap and ill never do another in car/truck cam/heads swap again.

should be able to pull the hood/fenders/radiator (and/or the support) in about an hour. Well worth it for the room it creates. Just a thought.

I agree with you. Last time I did the cam in my K5, I remember getting frustrated and saying to my wife "next time I'm just pulling the focker out of there".

Less bolts to remove if you just pull the whole front clip. Then you have a nice place to sit on either side:D

Bah, not when you're a picky bodyman. Once you've accomplished great body gaps, you leave that stuff alone.

Ah, but there's much more to it than that. And I don't like little 1/8 holes everywhere.

Like I said... picky.

That works great on a nice clean truck the comes apart nicely, mine does not and I know if I start pulling damaged parts of they are not going back on. Next thing I know this simple cam swap just turned into a frame off restomod. My head and cam swap already turned into a vortec serp swap with 130 amp alt, working ac, electric fan, I was trying to figure out why the cruise doesnt work and the damn thing isnt put together yet. oh and the header install.
