Hey all, need some help. Buying an 86 Silverado K30, originally equipped with the 6.2 diesel. For now, I’m dropping in a 350, will I be able to use the same torque converter that’s in the turbo 400 or will that be different? Thank you! Also, is this truck rare?

You will need a different converter and governor with a 6.2 diesel to gas swap. Not that rare, I've had several, think CUCV's.

In the middle of doing the same. It is my understanding that you will want a different vacc modulator and have to play with the governor a bit as well.

I did a 455 Olds swap on my dads 81 GMC, replacing the olds 350 diesel. The engine is basically stock from an early 70 land yacht.

If I had known then what I know know, I would have definitely replaced the factory diesel converter and governor with a gas engine parts. The diesel converter is TIGHT! The transmission bangs into gear (the gas engine is obviously requires a higher idle speed than the diesel engine) while the engine runs great, it’s obvious a little more stall speed would be better. The shift points are lower than ideal.

I have had a 700 trans sitting on my shelf for years, just waiting for the motivation to install it. It’s one of those deals where it’s hard to take apart something that works perfectly as is in an attempt to “improve” it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
