C10 Parking Brake Strut Spring Orientation

I have seen about every configuration online. When installing the spring that keeps the metal bar in place that transfers force between shoes when applying the parking brake, which way do you orient the loop that comes up off the spring? I saw the attached photo here on the site. Clever way to fit it over that little finger. But, is it right? A YouTube video said to put it down and behind the metal finger. A section of my shop manual said to put it facing up, but I’m not sure if that section refers to my truck model. It gives instructions for “parking brake - propeller shaft”????? Anyone know WTF the little loop is for and what to do with it?

No, not correct.

The loop is to keep the spring in place. Yes it should lean on the shoe, that is what holds it in place. Really it can face up or down, which ever way puts tension on it to keep it in place. You don't want it to interfere or touch the shoe return springs or the back plate.
