soo just chillin, been pressin the new posts button every 2 mins so thought id ask what was on my brain at the moment. So my 79 350ci motor, stock, but when it get a new dizzy it should be runnin like a champ, good comp. and all new external parts with a carb rebuild and open air cleaner with a good set of headers and exhaust. If i had a way to dyno it, and you guys had to throw a number out there wat would it be around? i read numbers all over from 150hp to 175hp and 245tq and 275tq in stock form.

I just took a 75 vette motor out and it was only rated at 175 hp. What carb you got on yours? That makes big difference

Yea that was book rated. It was one of the smoggers so it has no power. Most mid 70's were in the 165 hp range since they were smog. I built a 78 350 while back .020 over flat tops 1969 cylinder heads, comp rv cam, eldabrock alum intake and carb. It's suppose be around 280-300hp and it seems to have twice the power of stock engine in same truck

GM rated the 79 350 Truck engine at 165 hp @3600rpm, and 270ft lbs tq @ 2000rpm.
Cam intake and exhaust duration is 280*and 288* respectively
I wouldnt expect much more power than that with age.

humm well i can live with 165 but not great, but 270tq thats not to shabby. so your saying the age is balancing the small air/exhaust mod?

well id assume the stock numbers are a fresh motor but with full stock airbox and exhaust so if you clean that up with an open air cleaner and headers you should pick a few hp right? but the motor is 33yrs old so basicaly breaking even is wat ur saying right?

Air cleaner not much difference, the headers may havebyou really close to factory spec. a compression check may give you a good feel for how close it is. Long tube, or shorty headers?
