Late to the party, but thought of this little trick today for situations like this. So writing it down for someone that might read it in the future. Loop some short lengths of chain through the spring and bolt the ends of the chain together,to hold the spring compressed atvride height. Then when you lower the control arm. No springs trying to jump out,no more fighting them back in.
Works great, used the chain trick when I did my first set of coil springs, wasn't taking any chances.

Sometimes on some cars, you have to. Usually upper and lower A arm gm stuff I just throw a chain on the floor set my jack on the chain, chain the car down and use my floor jack to raise and lower the A arm. It was yesterday I figured out if you capture the spring with chains at its installed height it's easier, especially on long soft springs.
Oh I know lol. I've just never used them on anything that the spring fits up in a pocket on the frame and then goes to an LCA, just put a jack under it and let the LCA down. For struts, I always use compressors

These were morosso trick springs in a 66 Chevelle longer softer than factory for better weight transfer. Too long to slip in and out easily. So I figured bind the spring at installed height and it would come out easier. Thought someone else might benefit, not everybody, but somebody. I thought it was a great trick.
That is a good trick for sure

I think next time I'll use tie downs(cautiously) As for struts I won't tell you how we sometimes did them at work to beat flat rate time.(whoa!!!!,just occurred to me bind STRUT SPRINGS at installed ride height) then remove the strut cap,if it works, even better than our old cheater method.

That's only 1/2 the story. Then you stand the strut up with everything, spring, top cap, etc. Put a spare tire over the whole mess and have 2 coworkers push down on the tire for a second or 2 while you zip the nut back on,through the hub hole on the wheel.
