O HI O don’t care that you’re driving around impersonating an emergency vehicle? Most states do.
OK don't care either. Many plumbers and electricians use ambulances and paint them up as 911 24/7 plumbing or electrical service. Now, impersonate a cop car, even a plain cop car, you have reds and blues in your grill and windshield, you going to jail. One exception, if you're painted or wrapped for a roadside service vehicle, then you can have warning lights, but they are to be used ONLY when pulled over and parked working on a vehicle. Same with tow trucks. We can also use Reds and Blues. With permission from the LE agency, we could use them, like if we are going to a crash on the freeway that has the freeway shut down so obviously we can't get through, then we can get on the shoulder turn on all our lights, NO SIRENS, and use the shoulder to get to the crasch scene. Many times I'd run red lights since I was the night driver, no traffic at 3am etc, I slow down, make sure it was safe to go and blow the light. NO, I did NOT turn on lights to do that. By doing that, you are impersonating a LE officer and we do NOT have authority to run traffic lights or speed or break laws. However, I worked for a district wrecker service for OKC, and I knew I wouldn't get ticketed so I did what I wanted just didn't use lights unless I was trying to break through traffic that was stopped.
I once even had a county sheriff flash his reds and blues at me when I was doing 85 in a 60 on my way to a city pd call way out in the country. I flashed mine back, like F U !!! Then I got on the radio and radio'ed the other driver already on scene waiting for me to get there for a 2nd vehicle we didn't know needed towed so only 1 driver was dispatched. I told him to tell PD what County just did to me, he came back and said, Officer said you come on keep doing 85 and DO NOT pull over if he lights you up and he'll take care of the Sherrif deputy when I get there, that's it's not his jurisdiction, so he can eat a bag of D's and you just keep on coming we got a road to open up out here and cars are flying over this hill not knowing what's on the other side, so hurry up.
