ok good point guys, you could use a ratchet or tow strap to hold it up then from one rail to the other, we did dad's 86 that way but only after the motor was out we used the ratchet straps on the bellhousing holes and then used the brake booster and a/c box to hold it up. Frame would work better.

2nd, get ya some wedges of wood or maybe a strap and bolt that fits the torque converter, use the wood wedge between the Tc and the bellhousing, or use the strap/bracket bolted to a bellhousing hole and then a TC bolt in the Tc to hold it from falling out.

Yah, I'll have to climb under there and to some test support fitting and see what's doin under there. Maybe just a 2 x 4 will work. Gonna do some RECON.

Just be sure to push the converter back into the trans as far as it will go when you get it loose from the flywheel. It should be OK, but you never know. If its a downward angle and it thunders outside, or you fart in the garage, maybe enough to send it on its way.

Last time I pulled a motor and left the tranny in place, I used a heavy duty (very) ratchet strap to hold it in place. Just went between the rails, under the tranny pan... it was like that for an entire winter.

Man I was afraid of this. When you said you had dealt with him before and he had never done ya wrong I was thinking "yet". Time to make the road trip to Dave's!! He's got a cherry picker, should be able to have it pulled and set in the back of a truck or your burb in about 2 hours.

the blazer motor didn't have the oil diverter thing because it wasn't 4x4, only the 4x4's had it. it was because of the front driveshaft being on that side.
there was no 2wd Blazer after 1982, which would clearly not have a TBI engine. furthermore, the oil cooler adapter was not a 4wd only thing, you could get an oil cooler in anything. the difference in the 4wd filter adapters is that they are not straight up and down taking a PH5 filter, they're tipped on their side to take a much smaller PH3980 filter. the repositioning of the filter, and the reduction in size is for clearance on the driveshaft. the difference is only in 88-98 trucks, all 73-91 trucks got the traditional straight up and down filter, with the option of an oil cooler as well.
honestly I'd ditch the manifolds and run headers. I got mine for my 88 for $122 shipped and they are stainless, so no rust, ball end so no donut gaskets, and thick flange up top so no warping.

:word: stock manifolds SUCK!

Go buy that damn truck from Dave for $400. Its got a low mileage crate TBI motor in it. It'll probably cost $150 in gas, but still, you'll have all you need, a spare trans core, and part the rest out of scrap it for your gas money back. Work it and make it happen !!!

Yeah around here you can take any old transmission to Aamco and turn it in for core charge and get $60 or more out of it, much better than just junking it.
