700R4 TV Cable leaking

I'm having the same problem with leaking out of where the detent cable connects to the trans. So my question is. Should it be leaking out when it is on lvl ground and not running?

Actually it'll leak more when not running because the fluid level raises above the pan rail when it's not running, sometimes it won't even leak when it's running. BTW, welcome to the site..

Thank you! Also my shift point seem to be at 5mph and 25mph which from what I read is off. It does shift into these gear smooth if I ease into them with the gas. If I'm more heavy footed it seems to slip and Rev high before going into to what I believe is 3rd at 25mph. Please bear with me im very new to the world of do it yourself . I bought someones project truck and been having issues with this cable from the start.

I have over and over again. I've watched all vids available. Downloaded every available diagram. I have it shifting fine but was leaking . After I fixed the leak or so I think. I can't get it to shift properly. Which it why I am here. I've had it up to my eyeballs with this cable. Lol I'm over it and just want to move to the next thing bit can't. And thank you for the fast replies.

Sounds like it was shifting ok before you fixed the leak now it isn't??, that tells me it needs to be adjusted again, unless I'm reading this wrong???..

No your reading it properly . Was just wondering if it could be something else going on. I'm going to keep at it hopefully I make some progress. Seems like no matter what I do and it shifts the same. So I unattacted it from the trans to make sure the plunger didn't fall off while installing it the last time. From the info I've given all things considered trans doesn't sound like its shot? I dnt wanna but I will just put another one in well..pay someone to install a new trend and set up as a last resort. Hope it doesn't come to that.

Unhook the cable at the carb and pull the cable by hand and see if you feel spring pressure, if not it's not hooked up at the case, if you feel pressure then just adjust it again then try it again "easy".

Yeah I can feel it retract when pulling on the cable. Has about a 1"maybe 1 1/2 of pull ( just guessing) ok back at it when I get home. Thank you for your feed back.

(Update) been at it for a few days and still no difference. Does the length of the sleeve make a difference? I have an adjustable detent cable. And took the measurement from the one taken off. Seems to have a little bit of slack. Is that a huge deal? I mean I can pull the reset button like a inch passed the bracket. On the bright side the trans fluid leak coming out of the plunger hole isn't leaking anymore. Just gotta make sure the end of the cable housing sits just right and make sure to clean around the plunger hole real good before reinstalling.

The adjustable part only has to do with the housing distance from the case to the carb, to set the cable open the throttle wide open and pull the cable all the way tight then tighten the stop. First thing to do though is make sure you actually have full throttle, if you don't it needs to be fixed or it will never work right.

update... Wouldnt matter how I adjusted the cable slipping damage was already done probably due to poor cable adjustment by previous owner so sent it out for performance rebuild.

Well that sucks, also make sure you have the right bracket for the carb so you have the correct geometry.
