Final note on this thread.
I bought the ALDL cable, downloaded the tunerpro program and quickly figured out that it would require a large learning curve in order to make any use of it. Youtube is your friend.
Before shooting myself I decided to try replacing the ECM with a remanufactured one from NAPA. Crossed my fingers as I switched the OE PROM and CALPAK to the new box.
It worked! I have my old truck back.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Damn it jumped up to 60 bucks?

I've got an experiment going to see if I can make my own for about $10 or so. I'll update you guys once the part I ordered gets here. Got the idea from a thread over on gearhead-efi.

It's always been $60?

You get that idea from RobertISaar?

Yessir, ordered up my FT232RL and hope to have it sometime in the next few weeks. For now, I'm going to do it without a connector, but may find a cheaper 12 pin -> 16 pin adapter to steal the connector from down the road. He hasn't tried it on a 160-baud ECM, but I figure it's cheap enough I can give it a shot.
