Hi all,

my 1979 K25 has gauges (Volts, Oil Pressure, Temperature). When I switch on the ignition, only the "Seat belt" and "Brake" indicator lights below the fuel gauge light up.

I wonder if there are other indicator lights (Generator, Oil pressure, Temp.) installed but not working on my truck. Or are the gauges the only indication in case something fails?

Thank you!

IIRC, that's all the indicators in my '75, but I have an ammeter gauge not a voltmeter. I don't know if they added a charge light when they switched to a voltmeter. Later trucks added a 4WD indicator light, but I don't know the year.

The brake light may be dual function. Its definitely connected to the proportioning valve (mounted near the steering box), and will come on if there is unequal front-to-back system pressure in the brake lines. On later trucks they also used it to indicate that the emergency brake was on.

My last truck was a '79 K15. IIRC there were no idiot lights that worked with the OEM gauges. I think only the brake light came on with the parking brake. The other dash lights I had were for 4WD and the seat belt. I can't recall what the fourth position was for.

If you shine a flashlight at the gauge, you should be able to read what the lens says.

It should be 4wd and choke under the speedo. Choke only lights up when it isn't working properly, so I've read.

My 4wd indicator was over in the 2” gauge location. Along with Gen 1, Gen 2 and I think Brake, but I’m not sure about the last one. Only other idiot lights are above the speedo and massive fuel gauge. They are WAIT and WATER IN FUEL.
