Help please!!! This was my first time replacing an ignition cylinder. Everything had gone smooth, but I’m having issues putting the circular pin back into the groove with the lock plate.
It seems like there’s not enough room to complete these steps. Even if I don’t put the spring back in, there doesn’t seem to be enough room after placing that plastic retainer. Is there something supposed to be pushed back more? Any tips and/or advice is appreciated.

There should be a steel plate that goes over that spring that is the steering wheel lock when the ignition key is turned to the off position. That play is then held in place with a snap ring. You will need a steering wheel compression tool to get it back together.

Get you one of these. It all needs to be compressed to get the ring in the correct grove.

Thanks for replying. There was a steel washer that I placed before the spring, so you can’t see it. I couldn’t tell if that went first or between the spring and the plastic retainer. Are you saying that it should be between the spring and plastic retainer?

Thanks. I do have that, but I feel like there’s not enough room, even when compressed.

I believe I read on here some place that if you follow an amazing link from this site, that GM Squarebody earns a small amount of money, so I try to post Amazon links if I can.
