I forgot to say why I got sidetracked for almost four hours…

So I got the trans in place and almost buttoned up and then a knock on the door. Hmmm, wasn’t expecting anyone. Answer the door and it was the guy on the end of the row that does paint/body/restoration work, he needed help pushing that bagged F100 I had shared pictures of before. It’s on Harbor Freight wheel dollys, and anyone that has a set probably knows that getting things moving in one direction can be tricky with them, they like to track sideways and what not. He’s got quite a few cars in the one bay and it was a close squeeze between the 40 Chevy truck and GTO on the rotisserie.

I wanted to introduce myself at some point, but didn’t want to bug him out of courtesy, as this is how he makes his living sort of thing. So help him push the ford and then begins the chatting and talked for almost four hours. That was nice to finally meet and such.

So the ford, it’s his truck, he bought it recently and the previous owner was the one who did the crown Vic front swap and step notch/linked/bagged it. Everything the previous owner did is wrong pretty much. It’s got 6” of wood blocks in between the rear axle and step notch, which puts it at a low ride height, but the bags are over extended, the front at ride height still is cambered way in, mis matched bolt patterns front to rear. Has a 4l60 in it and LS mounts. He is planning to go 302/AOD.

Well that was a good way to meet the neighbor! Sounds like he's got a helluva a project but it's got the look so it's worth doing I'd say

Indeed it was, might even have a couple of jobs from/through him lined up. Regearing a 10 bolt in that 40 Chevy pickup and redrilling the axle shafts on that F100 to make it 5x4.5 all around.

Nothing to quit my day job, but might be a good way to get some extra shop funds.

I’ve been following his Facebook page for a while and it’s quite impressive the amount of work he gets done and projects going on for customers at the same time. Just a one man operation. He has two 30x50 units, one is his storage/dirty/prep side, the other is his paint booth/clean/assembly area.

There's a couple guys local here that kinda do the same thing. My buddy Tim turns out some killer builds out of a couple 30x50s and he does everything except upholstery, it's pretty awesome. Just him, his dad and gf.

Went up to the shop today and it did not leak three gallons on transmission fluid out, so that's good.

Drove it a little, filled it up with gas and then changed the oil.

And in with some fresh VR1 20-50

I use one of these on my oil drain bucket to catch the drain plug and filter and anything else my slippery hands would drop. Saved my ass many times.

Great idea, nothing like feeling around in 5 quarts of warm oil for a drain plug.

I use an upside down trash can lid from a big yard trash can, works like a champ. There is usually 1 hole right in the center with a plug to knock out too small for a drain plug to fit through. Works great for transmission fluid and filter,no mess around the drain pan.
