    Should I swap to a 6.2?

Awesome read, glad you pulled the trigger. I had a j code 6.2 with a 4 speed in a crew cab square, pulled round bales on a gooseneck trailer and never failed me. got good mpg unloaded. I should have kept that truck, I miss it.

no power on ac wire to compressor

Start the truck and turn the a/c on. Disconnect the low pressure switch and do a monentary jumper to see if you get power to the compressor then. If so you either have a low pressure condition or a bad low pressure switch.

    Width of a Gm 12 bolt 1973-1987

Many of these old squares ( 1/2 ton) had the 12 bolt rear end. I am looking to upgrade my daily driver rear end and want to keep it a 5 lug. Anyone know the width of these 12 bolt from Wheel mating surface to wheel mating surface?

    my 71 on ebay

I dont think anyone including me meant any offense. Its a nice rig, Drop a few dollars on rockers and cab corners and i thiknk it would sell fast. Alot depends on location as well. I grew up WELL away from the rust belt so even small amounts of rust are foreign to me. Now I live near the...

SOLD 14 bolt ff 6-lug conversion hub for SALE!

SF is a GREAT upgrade to the crapy 10 bolt. Best you can hope for without lathe wirkd and going to a FF 14. The SF is a rock solid rear end and they are dirt cheap if you look hard enough,. I did the FF14 conversion to my old 92 Z, But I michined down the center hubs and drilled the drums...

    my 71 on ebay

I saw the add when searching EBAY. ( I havent been here in awhile) A little steep for the amount of rust. I agree I would pay more for ummolested version than someone elses started project. I say keep it an finish it.. They are cool old trucks.

Whats you gas mileage on your squarebody truck?

This happens alot. my crew showed 16, but compare that to real miles (gps) and it was closer to 13 at best.

    C10 k10 2wheel drive to 4 wheel drive

The year might have been different thickness. I have done this several times. measured the frame rails with a mic and never found any real differences that couldnt be chalked up to manufacturing tolerances. Even putting a 2500 frame under it , you would still have a 1500 vin so you could...

    C10 k10 2wheel drive to 4 wheel drive

If you find a 4x4, you can make templates ( paper ones) using the holes in the frome adn drill them correctly in your frame. I have done it both ways, I find the 2wd to 4x4 swap easier, than the frame swap. But that just my opinion. I did the crew cab in 2days doing the frame swap, did my other...

    intake gasket keeps blown

I dont use the rubber valley gaskets on the ends either. Just a thick bead of BLASK RTV. Let it sit up for about 30 min, Sit intake on it with a couple bolts on the end of the intake just finger tight for alignment. Let it sit a couple hours and torque it down. Let it sit overnight before you...

    how easy is converting 2WD to 4WD (88 C30 3+3)

Welding will be the floor of the truck Everything else bolts up. Alignment is easy if you use a template for making the holes in the frame. Go look at a 4x4 adn make note of the differences and youll see there is not that much to it, I have done this many time.

anyone know about this grill guard?

I had the same one on my 86, it actually caused more damage than it saved when I hit the ditch. Looksed cool tho, but really doesnt do anything ato protect against anything larger than a mid sized dog.

Swap out my 6.2 Diesel for a 454

The torque covnerter at minimum, But i thought the diesel trans had something different internally. I cant remember what it is. I wouldnt worry about dropping the tank, Just drain them as low as you can and refill with gas, A little diesel in the tank wont hurt as long as its less than a...

my 1988 CREW CAB 1ton BOX STYLE

Depends on how the short bed conversion was done. Would need to see picstures of the frame modifications to determine how well the conversion was done, Otherwise its a sharp truck. Its worth what someone will pay for it, Thats the short of it. Hard sell right now being a 454 th400 combo .
