Pulled the driveshaft to replace ujoints and go figure it's all beaten up and making it very hard to get them out. I beat on it with a 3lb hammer and it didn't budge. Even after soaked it in penatrating oil. I think it's been beat a little out of round.

Big badda-boom.

For some reason I thought this was the original motor, but once I started pulling it apart, I found that I hadn't looked at the engine suffix code or really looked at any of the other numbers on it. Turns out it is a 1973 or 74 passenger car 350 that someone had put some mildly ported 305 heads on. Looks like it has never been rebuilt either and had a GM cam and GM double roller timing set on it along with roller rockers. It's never really run right or had good power, but that's probably due to the dead cylinder. I'm betting the original motor blew at some point and someone just dropped a junkyard 350 with some minor mods in it and kept on rolling. The new motor with flat tops and a good cam should be a big improvement.

Thats why mine got a LS upgrade, if it had been numbers matching I would have rebuilt the 350!

I'm in limbo waiting for my axles to be done and returned. Dug this out of my stash. About 5 yrs ago I made 4 of these catch cans out of aluminum. Have 2 left. About 2.5+ qt capacity IIRC. Same diameter as the canisters for easy mounting options. The missing port and ball valve bottom drain are nearby.....just showing size.

Well I'm definitely happy today about this driveshaft deal. Called my mechanic and asked him and he gave me the number to the only driveshaft shop in the area. It's in Galveston County about 21 miles away from me but, i don't mind.

Told him what set up I have and said he'd build one that'll be good for 400hp for me. Said best way is to bring old one in. Told him I'd get back to him.

So I get home and being a stubborn bastard I gotta get those u joints outta there. So double viced him and went to beating on them with the 3lb hammer and a 3/8 extension. Lol

Both ends. Bad news is I got the wrong u joints for it. Too big. This takes 1.0625 ones. So I think I'll get the right u joints and a new transmission yoke and use the old one. Or I got my stimulus check later than everyone else and take the old one down to him and get a newer stronger one.

What yall think?

Which u-joints you need? I have a new pair of Moog 371's I got by mistake and its too late to return. Can have them for shipping if they're the ones.

They measured 1.0625 or 1 1/16" on the od.

Doing some little things to my brother's '77 with him today in my dad's shop. Thought he wanted a steering stabilizer for the 2wd that LMC sells, thought it was a lousy idea but he's got it now

Then of course in the main bay of my dad's shop is his '76 Sierra project that he's had since the 80s, second owner. He's rebuilt it many times until it's been left to decay about a decade ago, now coming back FOR REAL this time and better than ever (12" lift). So far he's amazed me and my brothers with this cab body work, including some serious door work and switching the floor from 2wd to 4wd. But what really drops the jaw every time is how he painted her: bottom portion all the way around including door jams has been raptor lined with the orange tint, and then painted over with the rest of the cab. Turned out pretty darn nice and we're all excited to see the final product one of these days, sadly it's a backburner project right next to his '90 Suburban.

Got half the driver door blasted today before it got to hot. Triple digit heat in NorCal this weekend.
