Hi All, hoping someone can shed some light on this... basically when I go to take off the gas pedal is super stiff like it is locked up, takes a decent amount of force to get moving and when it does it's like i'm trying to drive like a jackass.

Same thing when you are driving along and take your foot off the gas, when you go to give it more gas you gotta lean on it hard to get it to budge.

Once you get it moving it is free, smooth and normal to use. It's like it is jamming against something.

I thought maybe it is the kick down cable for the trans but I'm not sure as all this seems to be moving freely.

Anyone else had this issue?

I’d say lubricate the pedal, disconnect the transmission cable to make sure it’s not giving you any grief, see if it behaves better while parked and giving it gas, and if not, you may just need a new throttle cable. It could be frayed, binding, or rubbing against the sheathing in a way that makes it feel the way it does.

As said above. Also a good idea to disconnect all the connections to the throttle linkage to make sure your carb isn’t the culprit.

i have had one that acted like that. the cable started to fray inside the plastic cover. i would disconnect it at the car and the pedal and see if the cable moves free

Thanks guys, I will check this next time I work on it. If I give it gas using the throttle on carby there is no binding, just smooth and normal. Pedal is free and lubed up. Might just order a 2 x new cables just in case anyway.

I converted mine to mechanical linkage. Don’t have to worry about cables fraying or binding and you have complete control. And it can be done cleanly

Does it act that way with the engine not running?
I had an Edelbrock carb whose throttle shaft bore was pretty worn.
When not running, it was fine. But,when running, the force of the air
on the butterflies caused the shaft to bind to and act the way you describe.
That's my $.02.Now I'm broke.
