The SCR part number I am currently TESTING (will know more in about a week), is TYN616RG from mouser.

A SCR is a silicon controlled rectifier, think of it as a diode that is turned on with a switch (its gate), once turned on it acts like a diode and will conduct even if the power to the gate is taken away (so the switch is like a one shot turn on), to turn it off you must take away the power from the diode itself, that will reset it. I talk about it in my terrible video, man I need to make a follow up video LOL.

Mine had issues from the factory. I was wondering and has already probably been answered. Can you bypass the module, will the male and female connections on the input and output simply plug together?

Could it possibly be a MOSFET?

I am also in the process of repairing mine. When I honked the horn, my wipers always swiped. I bypassed the module and the wipers now stay put during a public shaming instead of waving at the offenders.

I took my module apart and found the same D2 diode blown and found this thread when looking at part numbers. I replaced it with 1N4007 for a bit higher voltage tolerance. If it blows again, I'll get something bigger amperage. R3 is also high at around 30M and quite crusty, so I'm replacing that as well as all the caps while I'm in there. The SCR appears fine, but ordered one just in case as well. The TYN616RG is the wrong pinout for exact replacement, but I already ordered a few S6008LTP to replace the existing SCR.

I'm contemplating investing some time in designing a new PCB/circuit if I can get myself in gear...

That said, if anyone needs a repair, I could possibly assist. Once my parts arrive and I can test, we should be good.

@bucket Are you willing to share that schematic with us as a file?

Can you clarify? Do you mean instead of a picture of the diagram? Of course, although it may take a bit. I know my dad still has all that info saved, I'll ask him to email it to me.

Exactly. Just so I'm not working off of a picture of a printout :)

I’ve got a module I can send you that’s got me stumped.

Here’s the story. Bought the truck and the module was no good. New wiper motor, new stalk on the column. Last Christmas I got myself a “tested working” module on eBay. Well, it kinda worked, worked when it wanted, etc. basically I’d have to leave delay on and let it sit there and eventually it would decide to work. Found someone online who said they repair these and sent him my original module that was completely dead. He went through it, sent it back. It worked fine for a while but developed the exact same problem, not coming on when I switched it on and eventually coming on if I left it sitting on while driving long enough. Eventually I sent him the eBay module and he went through that one and it’s in my truck now and working fine but I’d sure like this other one I have gone through to find out exactly why it failed even after being gone through and so I’ll have a spare for when the module in my truck eventually fails. Anyway, pm me your address and I’ll send you this module if you’re willing to take a look at it for me!
