The large majority of the country could benefit from safety inspections. I'm not going to be a big advocate of it though. Because too many folks with halfway decent vehicles will end up getting hassled over piddly nonsense because the inspector has an authority complex.

Rules are good --- that way you know where you stand and how that vehicle coming at you at 60 MPH would hit you at a combined speed of 120MPH if you are driving at the same speed, but something failed or fell off - whatever!

Knowing that they are driving a safe-rated vehicle is reassuring as long as everybody plays in the same ballpark.

The problem with rules is that they create a monster through legislation that just grows and grows and generates a lot of dislike among the players. This is a human - albeit: perverted - way of wielding power - and with power comes corrupted cash flow.

With corrupted cash flow comes anger among the users, and that's where the wheels fall off. Standards are good, though --- think of the testing of brake material and the steel holding the ball joints together and the rubber sealing dirt out and oil in.

If there were no standards - we'd be driving potential deathtraps - both to ourselves and everybody else we face on the highway.



I know that different people see things in different ways. Everyone has different experiences to build their worldview. For all we know, he is just using his experiences as a guidepost to help people he considers his confidants and friends feel safe and secure.

He is probably not looking for motivation or validation. What we might see as intrusive, he might see as "the truth" to guide his friends and family. Maybe he is just giving advice from his heart.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I really think his intentions are in the right place. You might cut him some slack. He does care about his private circle.

Well, dang. I saw you were here and had posted and I got excited because I am legitimately wondering how you answer my questions. But you are just beating around the bush so far.

So how does one of those old style brake controllers use a larger volume of fluid than two rear brake cylinders on rear drum brakes that are just ever so slightly out of adjustment?

Can you provide us with a copy or link to the law that states they are illegal for use on a dual circuit brake system?
