The #2 rod bearings were actually playing piggyback. They were both on the rod, neither on the cap.

And tons of bearing material in the pan. And remains of lifter plunger retainers.

Looks like the bearings did their job, for the most part. The rod bearing that failed first, must have just happened before it got shut down.
Like you said 'driving with rod knocking'... sometimes it's that last breath trying to nurse it home that brings a certain finality to the meltdown haha.

And that's what a spun bearing looks like. That crank is toast. Some will have it welded up and re turn it to spec. Never really been a fan of that myself.

That's the funny part, it never took it's last breath, it actually still ran. It ran well too, it just sounded like those bearings looked. The few times we moved it around, I was waiting for it to suddenly stall with a loud 'clang'.

Nope, it's toast. It's just a garden variety markIV crank, I don't think there's any point in trying to doctor it up.

Block is still good. Junk Crank and at least 1 rod, Sounds like a good specimen for a Stroker 496.

So are you keeping the truck now???

496 is what I was thinking too. We will see how many years that takes me to accomplish, lol.

Yes, keeping the truck. Sold my trailer and the '05 Malibu to help make it happen. Got my eye on another trailer.

Lol, no. Although that would be pretty cool to have with an older 70's cab over. The trailer is one that my employer is supposed to be offloading soon. It's a 22ft deckover PJ with a hydraulic tilt deck. It needs some work so it might be affordable. I'm still waiting on a price.

In other news, I adjusted the rear brakes and they are even more squishy than yesterday. I'll have to try bleeding again, maybe there's air trapped somewhere. But I took the truck on a decently long drive anyway, it did good. Although I found out that the ODO is inoperable, so who knows how many miles are actually on the truck.

And it's been a while since I had seat time in something with 3.73 gears, no overdrive and short little passenger car tires. That will take some getting used to.

Other than the brakes, yeah. Good throttle response and the trans is happy to kick down and it upshifts firm. Torque everywhere. The stuff that puts a smile on your face.

My 90 gmt400 had a carbed 350 from a 76' bolted to a 700R and a 3.73 with 31's on it, ****** mileage? Sure but damn she was fun!
