lol, no what’s stupid is ordering one based on the description of “8.5” ring gear” and just assuming that’s what you have without looking into it further. That’s what I did.
Well I have a 12 bolt, 8.875 ring gear or whatever the hell it is so I got a useless to me 10 bolt pinion seal and didn’t feel like bothering with sending it back so I tossed it just the other day.
Woulda sent it to you for free so it at least didn’t go to waste, dammit.

tl;dr: yes 10 bolt is 8.5” ring gear

when you swapped the 12 bolt for the 10 bolt did the 10 bolt have the posi already installed or did you put it in?

I kept the ring and pinion from the 10 and swapped in a 30 spline posi carrier and my 12 bolt axles.

You know the ring and pinion gears need to be shimmed to give you the correct wear pattern or the rear end will make all kinds of noise and the gears will wear out very fast? This is something you need to know how to do or have a professional do. It is not just a bolt in thing.

I have had no issue since i put it in till i did some hard spinning around in my yard. On purpose. Still no noise just a pinion leak. I couldnt shim it anyway because the carrier had no side to side play at all

Hard to say when it comes to modern chain store listings. But it "should" be the right one.

What posi unit did you put in the 10 bolt? I have been wondering about it myself and have been reluctant to spend any money on it in favor of something heavier.

looks like there are a couple of posi units on Amazon cost is $400 - $500 looks like it takes a special set of bearing depending on the axles your running.
