Sorry this isnt much of a tech discussion but i just think its cool that after 39 years this document was still tucked away under the front seat. Just wish it was a little better shape lol. The truck was built in Baltimore, MD. And shipped to Sullivan Chevrolet CO. In Champaign, IL which is about 50 minutes north of my house.

The only reason i found it is because im a little thick and a double amputee and i needing to do some rewiring under the dash. It was alot easier to just take the seat out and lay on the floor than try lay upside down hanging off the seat lol

Nice find! And - I'd say that one is in great shape.

I've only found one in the last 50 years of collector car ownership.

Both?

I found a broadcast sheet under the back seat of my '70 Impala, but not an actual build sheet. I still have to look under the rear half of the carpet and behind the door panels. No dice on the other usual places.

The first one I found was in the back seat bottom half stuck between the springs and the padding. The second was on top of the gas tank. I still have the window sticker ,too, but sadly NOT the protecto-plate. Not too bad for being the first and fourth owner! Why I kept them after the first time I have no idea, but I did.

"Both"? There were multiple build sheets used during assembly, so there could be as many as six or seven within a given vehicle.

Build sheets weren't really intentionally "stuffed" in the vehicle as Easter Eggs to be discovered by future historians. They were intended to facilitate the build only, and to be discarded at the end of the line along with any other trash (inspection/repair tickets, paper coffee cups, extra fasteners, etc). The reality was it was often easier to build the vehicle up around where ever the build sheet was laying which is why you often find them with sealer sprayed across them, screws shot through them, etc.

There were several build sheets used, each tailored to meet the needs of the specific area: Engine line, chassis line, interior trim, cushion room (seat build up), front end sheet metal, axle line, final line. Each of these areas is an opportunity for a build sheet to be left behind in the "usual" spots - on top of the fuel tank, behind door trim panels, above the headliner, under the carpet, stuck in the seat springs.

Vehicles are built with build sheets taped to strategic areas even today. Here is GM's most technically advanced vehicle - still built with a piece of paper hanging off the front.

I found "both"of them that were in or on "my" car . I know these were the only ones on the car because everything has been apart on it and no more were found. I know that there were multiple build sheets just like there were multiple INVOICES, many that had different bottom lines for prices. Depending on who you were if you wanted to see an invoice the dealer had a choice. I know this because I saw at least 3 different ones on my LS6 car in May of 1970.

So the 'broadcast' sheet I found for my car is technically a build sheet? It has the boxes checked for the various options, but doesn't state some things, like where the car was getting delivered to. I have the build sheet for an '84 Z28 and an '88 Celebrity, and both of them show what dealer they were to go to. Oh, and same with my '79 Camaro.

Maybe.

I see versions called "Car Building Order" and "Production Manifest" in my files, plus a Willmington "Production Broadcast Notice" which is a little different format.

There were smaller slips of paper (3" x 8" or so) with minimal information, like just vehicle identification and RPO codes listed, used in some remote areas like the seat cushion room.

I would consider a proper "build sheet" to be the full 8.5 x 11 piece of paper.
