Planning to replace my accelerator cable soon. Wondering if anyone has any special instructions or tricks? My first cable replacement, and appears to be fairly simple.

TIA

I thought it was kind of a pain to feed it through the firewall, but there are worse things to do. The clip that goes on the bracket would never sit squarely in there. It’s cocked at an angle a little bit. It works great, and it’s installed well, but it bothers me just a little bit.

I replaced mine and couldn’t get it to work with my patience level lol, so I just did a mechanical setup.

Replacing the whole assembly from LMC.

Well, thought if I could tackle rebuild of vent windows with success, then this shouldn't be that bad.

As long as it moves smoothly and doesn't come loose from the firewall you shouldn't have a problem. If it sticks or binds even the slightest bit I'd go back and fix that.

I'm replacing my intake carb and intake and thinking of replacing the throttle cable too. Is there a way to adjust it at the firewall? Because it kinda bends between the firewall and brackt on the intake and doesn't move as freely as I would like it to.

Nah, it works great. It just looks a little weird.

I don't believe there is. The fastener at the firewall is bonded to the cable. I am not certain that you can twist/screw it in either direction. Mine won't move at all.

Received new cable. Does anyone know what the blue plastic piece is for? It slides on the cable housing. Looked at my current one and see nothing like that or a need for anything like that.

I have no idea about the blue thing , is that the one you got from lmc ? and is it the same length as your stock one ? The reason why I ask is most reproduction cable's are longer than stock and I am looking for a stock length one so you dont have a loop in it , thanks.

Have not installed yet or measured to current one. There is a weird bend from the firewall to the mounting bracket. When I install I will let you know. May be a week or two. Does appear to be correct length.

UPDATE...Finally got around to install new cable. It was 4" too long and the end that pushes into the firewall, the clips that hold it in were too large for the hole. I did not want to modify it since it was too long. Contacted LMC cust. service and after a week of emails of them not understanding it was too long and too large, requested to return for refund. Was told it was not cost effective to return. After a week and another email, finally got a refund.

Now, I do not need it and am not going to modify to fit. So, I am offering it up if anyone needs one with the lengths in the pic.

If interested, send PM.

I bought a new cable from Autozone and it was also about 24", which was (if IIRC) about 4" too long. Its got a loop/spiral in the section from the firewall to the carburetor bracket, because that seems to be where it has the extra length, but all the plastic fittings snapped into place and it works fine.
