woohoo....speedometer is accurate now.....peak of the little bounce is your speed if it is lol. Had to bump down from either a dark grey/light blue (looks light grey to me) and a blue drive......to red (37 tooth). I'll have to look up speedometer bounce now lol. I had to change the gear housing to go from 44/45 to 37. $40 on fleabay shipped. Got it from American Hotrod Solutions.

No more adding 10% on the fly. Was kinda cool seeing the speedo hit 80.

So you're referring to changing the drive and driven gears on the output shaft. So you changed both gears? And what about the housing? Are you talking the tailshaft housing on the transmission?

sorry about that. No I used the online calculators to figure out I needed a 37 tooth driven gear. Because I went from 44/45 tooth to 37, I needed the lower driven gear housing also. lol I say 44/45 cuz I counted it 4 times and came up with each number twice.....said **** it order one already and go from there.

Yikes, I guess I learned something. I didn't realize there was a difference in the 700r4. I thought all those were the same. I knew in Th350 there are big and little speedo drive gear housings, but the difference is obvious.

Yep, 700r has different housings like the 400, had to get one too for the Nova.

As I parked next to it today, I was looking at it and thinking about what to do. Rockers and cab corners are in better shape than I thought. Driver's door needs the HRPC Pex mod, little bit of body filler, scuffed, and painted. I should get a pack of cutoff wheels and work on the bed, debating on pulling the fenders to make it easy to work on and make it run again.

I knew there was difference for VSS or Analog speedo, but had no clue there was a difference for the gears. WOW. I guess I've never had to pay attention to that all these years.

part that sucks is I found a website 6 months ago that stated:

Drive gear color Y:

-5% off above use X color/below use z color
-10% off above use xx clor/below use zz color

Drive Gear color A:

-5% off above use B color/below use c color
-10% off above use bb clor/below use cc color

So on and so forth.

Pissed I lost the site, cuz it made it simple as snot. Not that I'm not good with math, but it was super easy.

Well, you wouldn't unless it was going into a whole new combination, like the one I put in the Nova, it came out of my truck like night and day..

Nope, never had to. Just did bench builds. Or one from a truck to another truck so if the gear ratio was off, like a 3.73 to a 4.10, then it was close enough didn't need to swap the housing.

added another pic that shows the teeth it handles. The other has 40-45 printed on it. Doing this was a first for me as well. My 68 camaro was off also.....had I only known. Doing 80 on the interstate it read around 90-95. lol 10 minute job. 350/th350 so I didn't need a passing gear. Think it had 4.10......but got better gas mileage than this thing.

Yep, that's what bench builds are. They bring it to me, I build it, they pick it up, it's their problem. All I cared about, they got a new converter which I usually got for them and that they set the TV cable right. Past that, it's their baby.

Unless I know them or it's a racer they get a new converter, if they refuse it fine, when you bring it back and I tear it down I will know who's fault it is, they usually take the new converter, lol..
