How do you like the cam and converter swap? I am looking to go that direction myself.

So I went with the BTR Truck Norris (the bigger one, not the NSR), LS6 springs/lifters/pushrods/trays/etc. It sounds great and runs great, lots of power gains in the mid-range, right where a 5.3 makes power. 9 out of 10 days, I love it. But I will say there are some days I get annoyed by the lope cuz it shakes the truck so bad and tries to push through the brakes, mainly just in traffic is when I get annoyed. If I did it over, the BTR Torque cam would be very tempting. Similar gains but a much smoother driving experience.

For the converter, I've got the 2800-3000 Circle D 300mm that I had in my C10 for a couple years. It's a perfect match for the cam. I'd love to have a billet triple disc but it wasn't in the budget. Drives darn near stock at part throttle around town but flashes perfectly when you wanna romp down on it. I was concerned about towing with this converter (if it would balloon or get too hot) but I just towed a very heavy steel deck car trailer with my '85 on it up from GA to OH, down to TN and back and it did great. I do have a 2500 cluster with a trans temp gauge and a China-Cool 40k from Amazon and bypassed the radiator, the worst I saw was ~195ish on a real long grade in KY. Most of the time it was 150-175*.

Overall, I love the combo. I also have stock manifolds and cats for now, just put a Corsa Pro muffler on (the smaller one) and it sounds sick.

Sounds good to me. I am actually making an order now to do a few sonnax parts in the tranny while I swap on a PPE pan.

Just got back from camping and running 65 on the interstate and rolling hills trans highest temp was 171. I need to also bypass the cooler in the radiator to drop the temps a little lower.

Good score! These are the best trucks they ever made, I've had several of them. I did similar with my current '05, bought it off a 72yr old guy bone stock and proceeded to ruin it lol. BTR cam/Circle D converter/4.56s/35s/yada yada

Here's a video of how it sounds, you can hear how the converter isn't crazy or anything at part throttle. It is honestly a bit much cam for it but I'm dumb and love cammed stuff lolol
