Thanks man! Looks like I’ll be doing that side trip to the Speedo cable tomorrow. Still leaking this morning.

Side rant here- why the hell do they make the speedo cables so tight? The one I put in last time didn’t have a MM to spare. I ordered longer version at 80” instead of the 61”. I’ll just do long lazy turns with it. Come to think of it, I think there’s an o-ring in the housing to replace too.

That was one of the factors that led me to doing the Dakota Digital gauges for the 79.

I've never understood that either. They're either banjo string tight or 15" too long. No in between

I’m out of time for today and tomorrow- I work really early and the next day as well. It took me most of today and yesterday just to become human after a 16 hour shift on Tuesday and severe sleep deprivation that night. I have a guy coming over on Sunday that’s going to be my second eyes and ears. That’ll be first fire up.

I got everything complete, and I hooked up the battery to crank just for a second. I just wanted to make sure the starter would play well with the new flexplate, but it’s fine- nice and quiet. It cranks nice and even.

Just a tip to make first start easy. Set her about 15 adv and she should fire as soon as it sees fuel saves a lot of playing around then adjust from there.

Note: mine wouldn't fire till almost 30 adv.

Thanks! I have an old junky clear distributor cap that the last time before I took the engine apart, I set the engine on top dead center and marked the distributor cap. So it’s kind of like my little tool to set it where the starting point is. Good info though, who knows where true top dead center was on that old engine ha ha.

The old eyebrow remover.Did that for the first and last time in the early 80's.

Did that years ago firing up my 69 Boss 302 after rebuild. Still smelled like burnt hair the next day at work. Thank God for eyelids…..

Try it with 2 600 Holley's on a tunnel ram under the hood of a 56 2 door wagon.......hair, eyebrows, eye lashes, lips....no tongue, had my mouth closed
