Huh, the 4.3 in our 85 has 300k+ on it, finally gave up the ghost. Everything was stone stock until 2011, when it got its first ever tune up…
Popped the oil filler cap with the truck running, enough blowby to make a steam engine look emissions friendly… Intake manifold is literally rotten, factory Qjet “sweats” fuel, rear main will let out 2 full quarts of oil in 20 miles…
Swapping in the engine from my 92 K1500, and the serpentine belt system/radiator (SB era 4 core copper/brass big block version). Longblock was originally a 1979 date coded Goodwrench 250hp crate 350. Came out of a mud drags K10 that got flipped end over end, was 335rwhp in the K10. 4 wheel rooster tails…

Choose your new intake/carb before you swap engines. I have a stock 80-85 Qjet alloy intake that came on everything from “old people church car Caprice sedans” to Corvettes to trucks. EGR block off plate should be here today. I have a fresh early style manual choke/manual transmission Qjet, truck has a Th400 so would work fine. If it had a Th350 or 700r4, it would be a paperweight. Also have a 600cfm 1406 (new) and 650cfm AVS2, both with electric chokes and Th350 compatible brackets, but would require a carb adapter… Lisa is NOT buying “yet another” intake manifold, have a 350 Vortec to carb swap, and she bought a car (1500-5500rpm) air gap instead of a truck (idle to 5500rpm) by mistake… Now need to buy a neighbor’s 62-64 Biscayne to put my Vortec in…

I'm late to this, but (I'm 99% sure) the 200/229 V6 and the 262 / 4.3L V6 distributors are not the same. The 200/229 V6 even had a Hall Effect sensor in the base of the distributor (for the ECM). The early V6 fires differently from the 4.3L

Mixing distributors between different Buick V6 can be the same problem. They run, but they run poorly because some of the cylinders are off on timing.

Funny you say that, I was bored so I cut it off for ***** and giggles.... It was clogged, and instantly started running. Runs good, just very loud. Gonna run the ol 4.3 till I finish building the 350.
