I finally had a chance to drive at night with my new RMS conversion and I cant believe how bright they are! If you are looking for a great setup this is it! Customer service was spot on as well I will definitely use them for other builds in the future.

Picked up these LED headlights along with the relay kit.

Haven’t had the truck on the road but looking forward to seeing the light output on em.

Country roads are dark as F lol

headlights grow dimmer over time.
truck is 40 years old...
didja ever consider simply replacing the units you have with new ones?
We replaced all 4 factory 1985 headlights in 2017. The highs had crapped out around 2013, but really made little difference prior to dying. It took a few months to track down 4 Sylnania Silverstar sealed beams, was before my wife became an online shopping pro.

Truck could use all new lighting, plan is all led less headlights. My gmt400 has led headlight bulbs in factory housings. Not impressed, but composite lights suck anyway. That 99 is going 88/89 dual sealed beam, with the brightest halogen bulbs I can find. Yep, retrofitting “obsolete” glass into a much more modern truck. When a 40 year old truck with sealed beams outshines a 26 year old truck with leds… You backdate to what works.

‘99: Very expensive LEDs, new housings. Bright/dim at the correct switch timing.

‘92: Normal Sylvania halogen 9005/9006, 13yo housings. Bright/dim superior to the LED 9005/9006 bulbs.

‘85 with stacked Silverstars has better lighting than either gmt40.

1969 D100, standard round 7” sealed beams, better than either gmt400. 1972 Super Beetle, same. 1949 Dodge truck with 7” glass 6v, better light output than either 12v plastic lensed gmt400.

The issue with led isn’t always the led capsule bulb or even the cob count, wiring, or the internal cut-off/scatter/etc… The main issue with cheap leds, cheap halogens or any other plastic Fleabay/Scamazon/Temu light is the easily damaged plastic lens itself. They arrive new optically flawed, and normal driving conditions destroys the “might be there” coating.

Well since I’m the one who started this thread, update, I haven’t done sh… for new headlights.
Life hasn’t allowed prioritizing cool headlights for my classic junk in the last year lol.
They all work trucks don’t get driven much and the issue I thought I had with the 77 was the PO don’t plug one in all the way. (He told me he’d just replaced the headlights when I bought it. )
The discussion and suggestions help though. For all of us.

Do you know which way the LED chips pointed in the housing, vertical or horizontal?

I’d have to pop 1 out and look. Not a priority when the K3500 “pulled a Vortec 350” and died at 22k miles on a fresh engine.

Not LED but I've been more than happy with my Hella H4 E code conversions, a higher watt bulb and a relay harness. Their replacement 80w/100w bulbs are under $5, I have had to replace one in the 7ish or so years I've had them.

I guess I should update my status as well. I made the change to RMS lights and they look great. A few issues that I have not tried to figure out:

1. My dash light indicator for the “brights” no longer comes on. I can go from high to low to high but there is no indication on the dash

2. I need to aim my lights a little. My springs broke and rusty adjustment screws broke so I replaced everything. Now people flash me as if my highs are on…even when they aren’t. I may have them aimed too high.
