Can you identify the ticking noise? 5.7l TBI

After finally getting this thing started it seems to have an odd ticking noise. It almost seems like it’s at the flex plate/torque converter but also maybe the passenger rear of the motor.

Thoughts?

Took the valve covers off and it didn’t seem to get any louder, rockers seem ok.

Put a wrench on the exhaust manifolds, seem tight

Manifold to exhaust seems tight but who knows

At one point of the video it changes pace at idle.

Thinking about pulling the pan and checking for a spun bearing

Well damn, that sucks. Is it just a bent pushrod, or did the lobe go flat?

I’m thinking flat lobe. We pulled the rods all out looking for a bent one and didn’t find any.

It’s a decent motor so probably worth pulling and having fixed. Maybe even run across one in the summit outlet. Either way it’s back to the fenceline and getting back on the crew cab for now.

You can swap cams without pulling the engine. You'll have to drop the pan to remove the timing cover,so I'd just drop the pan 1st. Look and see if there is tons of metal in the pan and oil pump pickup or just some. If it doesn't look terrible you can go ahead and swap the cam in the truck. You have no idea how many 305s and 307s got done that way.

Maybe maybe not ,that's why I said pull the pan. Lots of flat cams have been changed,without pulling and disassembling the engine. Get the pan off,see just how much metal is in the pan and the screen. Pull a couple bearing caps see if there's damage to the journals

Lost a cam in my 427 bb Chevelle at 1500 miles. Pulled it all the way down........way to much metal to trust it living a good life.........YMMV

Pull the intake,eyeball the lobe. You may just have a collapsed lifter.
