Hi everyone. My buddy was showing me his mid 70's square body that I hadn't seen yet. And he pointed out the sun roof, that he thinks is factory installed. So naturally I thought I would post a picture of it, and see if anyone has seen one before?

I bet Webasto makes a moonroof that would work - retract outside like a spoiler. They make like 90% of all sunroofs and have a list of custom 'universals'. Be a great way to fix mine. lol

Just curious, do you guys know who used to make them?

Pictures?

There were oodles of aftermarket sunroof manufacturers in the 70's-90's.

You don't want to see the one installed in my K5... it's horrendous. The sunroof in my C10 looks basically like the one in your first post up there. But it's maybe slightly bigger and there's a latch at the center rear, instead of two separate latches. It pops up at two different heights, or removes completely.

I worked at dealers in the 80s. They used to put sunroofs in anything. It was a huge money maker. If they leaked or needed repair the only fix was to find one that would fit the hole or a bigger one. Parts were non-existent in the 80s.

The other big thing they sold was sim-con tops. Simulated Convertibles.

CR Laurence was a big supplier.... I worked in the Auto Accessories install market and we sawed an awful of of holes in cars/Trucks back in the day. Squarebodies were an uglier project because of the double roof tin. We did them anyhow... whatever the Car dealers wanted! Really creeps me out these days when I see a nice car or truck at a car show with the aftermarket riveted on Body Side Molding. We popped holes in anything that came in the door. It just wrecked good sheet metal. Did tons of vinyl tops, but back then, a lot of those cars actually looked better with them, of course that reflects my age I guess. But, I'll take a mid 70's cutlass or regal with the half top over no top. Never did a Vinyl Top on a squarebody that I recall though ! CRL still makes sunroofs:

EDIT: Forgot to mention they have parts still available: https://www.crlaurence.com/products/brands/listing/C02C_AU

Shocked how much hate this is gettin.. hah. I actually like it.
I have some holes in my roof from previous owners antennas.. maybe instead of filling them, I make them bigger and get me one of these.

If it wasn't so expensive now to install a sunroof, I would consider doing it too. Last time I called a local glass shop to see what current pricing for a pop-up sunroof was $800 and that was a fewwww years ago.
