I'd drill pilot holes drill a 2nd hole larger,and 3rd larger yet I'd want the holes deep and big O.D. then use a narrow punch with the control arm supported on something solid ,a piece of pipe,etc. use as smaller O.D. punch . This gives the metal of the rivet room to displace to the inside and weakens its structure,also by drilling deep and punching with a narrow punch the metal can stretch and thin. Imagine pulling on braided rope VS pushing on braided rope. If you are driving the rivet from the top and it's stuck bellow, each hammer blow is a momentary compression and expansion. If you are driving from deep in the hole it's a pull and stretch. It's not bull ****. Glad you got it done. Your finished pics weren't up when I started writing this. Good stuff @Ricko1966 I’m just thankful today was successful and the job is now complete. Has made for a pretty relaxing night.

Ordered a bunch of stuff this morning. Mostly stuff to catch this thing up on maintenance
Battery (replacing 6 year old battery )
Oil change supplies
Radiator and hoses
Fuel filler hose
Hub assemblies
Grill (and all the hardware for the grill and lights)
Headlights, bumper lights, corner lights and taillights
Blower motor and resistor
Belt

Also have new bolts for the seat and bed bolts. I hope to have a bed acquired or this weekend or next (probably next because of a baseball tournament)

This thing seems to have been well cared for in it's life (other than introducing it to a tree) but the fastening hardware is all over the place and it's driving me crazy so I'm tryng to get that sorted as a go.

One common issue that I forgot about with these is the water drip in the passenger floor board. Rained cats and dogs yesterday.....had a pond in my floor board when I got in Was like, "ahhhhhh yessss" #gmt400lyfe So gotta track that down and get it sealed up before new carpet goes in

A leak on the passenger floor is common? Our three don't leak and I don't believe my brother's truck leaks water either.

Check for a gap with missing seam sealer where panels meet up. My buddy's dad's Tahoe (limited!) has (had?) a spot in the cowl that leaked and you could see some light through it.

It's the inlet for the hvac box, you'll have to pop off the cover that's seam sealed over it. Easier if you pull the hood too.

Yes and there are dozens of threads out there about it. Every single gmt400 I’ve ever owned has done it lol

Guess I've been lucky. My truck has an aftermarket sunroof and there's still no leaks, lol. Must be an age thing? I worked on a bazillion of them at the shop, I don't ever recall a water leak on the passenger floor. That was 12+ years ago though.

Oh yeah, my old '94 Burb that I parted didn't leak either. I ain't lucky with much stuff... it seems all my luck is wasted on non-leaking gmt 400 trucks, lol.

Dude, you’re now the luckiest person I know! my first exposure to the GMT400 was when my dad bought a 92 Sierra new off the lot. That sumbish leaked on the passenger floorboard almost right off the lot!! It definitely didn’t have much age when it started for sure and he never fixed it
