Gooseneck fifth wheel removed and is now in @RangRayy ’s hands. Scheduled to pick a bed a couple of hours away on Wednesday :)

New to me bed acquired and is on the truck now. Bed needs some bodywork but is rust free so I’m pretty happy with the deal :waytogo: first step is taking off the bed rail diamond plate deals and the chrome junk off the bottom.

Hmm.... gonna paint the truck black now? You are halfway there!

Those lower stainless panels, I hated on everything. EXCEPT for the gmt 400 trucks, I think it just looks good. It ties in well with the bumpers and gives the effect of a chrome lower two-tone.

I just really dislike them because so many people slapped those on to cover up rust and I'm certainly not going to stick them on the cab and fenders of the truck to match the bed so they'll be coming off this weekend :)

Yeah, that's exactly why I hate the lower section of trucks sprayed with bedliner. 99.9% of them, it was just done as a feeble attempt to hide rocker and cab corner rust. It could be a perfectly nice and solid rig, but to me, the bedliner coating just makes it look like every other rusted truck that has an owner in denial.

Around here though, those stainless panels were mostly just found on "luxury" vehicles or wannabe luxury vehicles. And long before they were all rusted.

To keep as much water out of the inside as possible so that I can continue to drive it while I'm working on it which is how I do with all my projects. With that said, I want to redo the install anyway so it'll be no skin off my nose to take it out and reinstall come paint time anyway.

Same with the bed. The bed is super easy to remove so no big deal to remove it come paint time and in the meantime I've got a bed to use while I drive it and work on it.

For me, being able to drive the project helps me keep my motivation fresh and alive rather than having something stuck in the corner in pieces and not usable.

I had those diamond plate caps on my gmt400. I liked those!
