I'm not sure when they added another digit to the VIN of our trucks but my truck is too old to check via Carfax. I'm curious as to how many owners it's had in the past and where it's been throughout it's life. How would you check on the history of your truck when Carfax is of no help?

Yep, compnine is good, but that's not going to give you any vehicle history.

He'll still get good info from that though. Where the truck was made, etc.

Yours is likley to new. Try to find a decoder for the right amount of #'s. I gotta run out the door or I'd give you link. My long day today. I'll look when I get back here.

I know where it was made and that kinda stuff. I'm more interested to know the history of ownership and stuff. More curious than anything.

Just a note to the mods, many times when I got to post caps in the quick reply box it auto switches the text to lower case, just like when I posted that VIN #.

Would not be that interesting for mine since my uncle got my truck new in 85 and was the single owner. He also added the only accident was my aunt driving the truck into a barrier at the gas station and crinkling the fender in a little bit.
Oh and the truck was attacked by a tweeker who had a crow bar, the guy got mad trying to break into my uncles camper and took his frustrations out on the GMC.

So I'm guessing there's no way to research the ownership history on the older squares other than the old fashion way via the DMV office?

Possibly set to do that on purpose so that people aren't screaming in caps. You might try a space between each letter to avoid that.

I do beleive that is correct. And you state DMV will only have the registration history in the that paticular state, but they should be able to tell you which state it came from, then you could chase that state backwards till you got to the original, Title of Origin which would be from GM.
