I'm running Rendezvous fans in my '84, they work great and were easy to mount. I wired them up myself since I had all the material here.

It can be done much prettier, I put them in with stuff I already had around since it's my daily beater truck. Top angle tabs are from an old brush guard. Lower mounts are made from 4L80E wire harness support brackets.

That appears to be a very healthy looking fan system.

They work great. No troubles keeping the motor cool, even sitting in stop/go traffic when it's 100+ degrees outside.

Looks like them. I think all years use the same fans, along with the minivans from '97 through at least '04. I cut the upper mounts off and drilled mounting holes into the 'circles' in the shroud. It's very sturdy there.

Yeah that would work, although overpriced IMHO. I like to use better quality terminals and a factory fan switch. But if you are happy with the price, go for it!

I do have one question. Ive been told that I need to upgrade my alternator to a more beefy one. Opinion? I dont even know what the stock amp one is but they tell me I need 80 amps idel and 140 amps capability.

Mine is still the stock '84 replacement. I think it was the 78 amp unit, it has no trouble keeping up when the fans are on, but I don't have FI or any fancy stereo equipment.

I never installed mine ony truck...my dad did though. He had an issue with the harness I bought him I think relays bad.

Then, 2 wewks ago I was driving his truck home from work becaise mine was down for brake parts, amd I was sitting in traffic for about 20 minutes stop and go and noticed a coolant smell.

Looked at the water temp, pegged out red. Oil temp, 0.

Freaked out, had to lay on the horn to get some girl to let me over so I could take the shoukder all the way to the off ramp. Shut it off at an exxon and waited 1.5 hours for a tow with a loyboy...by then truck had cooled down. Efans weren't working again.

I'm hoping there is no lasting damage to the engine. 0 oil pressure worriwd me. It was back up whrn I loaded it up on the trailwr but still low.

Dad is searching online for more harnesses. I think he's crazy. No way I'm gonna trust my **** to efans ever again, esp when the hp benefits of them are minimal.

I even had ls1 fans on my 2001 silverado and had trouble with the relays..not risking it on my c20

I had this same debate with myself regarding my Monte. In the end after much reading about incidents like yours, I decided to stick with the stock clutch fan. If something goes wrong with an e-fan, if doesn't spin or work. At least with a clutch fan, it will either freeze up, in which case it still "works", or it free wheels, and centrifugal force will get it moving and still "work", in a sense.

I agree, I am not 100% positive the power gains are worth it.
