wheel studs

anybody know the size of the studs on the wheels? i have a 82 C10 Silverado that use to be a stepside and i want to throw some 22''s but the lug nuts for the bigger wheels dont fit the studs of the truck, they're too small.

thats crazy isn't it the two wheel drives have bigger studs than four wheel drive, just doesn;t make a lot of sense to me

Yeah, it's crazy. There must have been some reason... but I've never heard it.

Most 4x4s where 6 lug, so maybe they could use smaller lugs since you are spreading the load over 6 points instead of 5?

Yeah, but why bother having 6 then?

Originally, 2wd's and 4x4's had 6 lugs and I think they were all 7/16 studs. Then in '71 the 2wd's got the new disc brakes and the 5x5 lug pattern with 1/2 inch studs, as did the new '71 full size Chevy cars. I'd guess they just never felt like putting bigger studs in the 4x4's.

Probably, considering Summit Racing has about 4 pages of 5x5 22" wheels on their website. :roflsquared:
