The ad says its a 79 4X4 with a flatbed and a hydraulic bale spike. $650.00

I called the guy and he said it has a slight knock in it, I think it may be a wristpin. He said that if you rev it up it goes away, i guess it could also be a flexplate but hes already had the Transmission out of it, and evidently it started it after he did that, so he could have cracked it doing the install of the transmission.

Heres what is concerning me, he says its a 79. BUT when you look at the headlight bezels and grill it is NOT a 79, also it has a TH350 with a NP203 Transfercase (fulltime). What was the last year for Fulltime Transfercases in these trucks? It is painted camoflauge leaf pattern

I believe the last year for the 44 was 78 or 79 and GM went to the 10 bolt after that.

well i think i can see from the pic that there are 6 lugs? am i right. so half ton. and when you say dana 44 or 10 bolt im assuming youre talking about the rear. thing is dana 44 which i have on my front diff has ten bolts. so does dana 60 and dana 70. the gm corporate 10 bolt diff looks totally different (kinda oval), there are two different kinds of gm corporate 14 bolts. The "small" GM 14-bolt has a 9 1/2-inch ring gear diameter. It was used in the rear of 1964-and-later GM pickups, and in the rear of 1984-91 3/4-ton Suburbans. the "big" 14 bolt has a 10 1/2-inch-diameter ring gear, this rearend looks much like a Dana 70, and is but a few thousandths of an inch shorter in ring gear diameter.. It was used under 1973-87 3/4-tons. so im guessing if its stock that it has a 12 bolt rear and dana 44 front. there is a chance that it could have the gm corporate ten bolt diff i was talking about(the ovalish one) but This 10-bolt, replaced the Dana 44 that was used in the front of SOME pre-1977 GMs. It can also be found in the back of 1983-91 1/2-tons and in the front of 1983-87 1/2-tons.

but then again these trucks have been swapped around so much ya know

heres a couple links that will help you identify axles

For $650 not bad could prolly get it for $500 if you look closely at the door gap of the door and fender its got a noticible gap compared to the rest of the door and just doesn't seem ri ght could have been a 4x4ing accident or someone has replaced the front clip from an older 74-78 Chevy and didn't care about it, I would guess its got the Dana 44 front and GM 10 bolt rear being a half ton from what I see, if I'm correct I believe the 3/4 tons and k5's came with the Dana 44 front axle np 205 and either a GM 12 bolt or 14 bolt depending on if its a 3/4 ton or k5 blazer depending on what you plan on doing with it I'd keep my eye out for a 3/4 ton with the beefier axles trans and transfer case if your looking for something to cruise in and tinker on then go for it

After checking, 1978 was the last year for the Dana 44 front axle. Starting in 1979, GM went with the 10 bolt front axle for their 1/2 and 3/4 ton's.

1980 was the last year for the 12 bolt rear axle in 1/2 ton's, Suburbans and K-5's, after that the 10 bolt rear was the only rear axle offered in those rigs.

Or they could have been swapped out. My 88 Suburban has a TH350 in it instead of the 700R4 it came with from the factory.

Not quite.

'77 was the first year for the 10 bolt front, but it started getting phased in later in the model year. The d44 was supposedly still occasionally used through the '79 model year.

The rear end question is tricky and I don't remember the specifics. IIRC, the 2wd's started getting the 10 bolt in '81, but the 4x4's didn't see them until '83 I think. It may have had something to due with gear ratio too.

And '79 was indeed the last year for the 203.

well dam, went ahead and pulled the trailer down to hopefully bring the truck back as a parts truck. I was the most intrested in the flatbed with bale spike. LOL yea right, it was a cobbled up piece of **** bed with a homemade bale spike that ran off the Powersteering pump. Oh and the misalignment in the front clip is no doubt due to the truck has been abused even more then I would abuse a 1/2 ton truck. The guy refered to himself as a "produce farmer" i would be more inclined to think that the produce he is farming isnt actually the produce you buy at a store or even in a parkinglot IN DAYLIGHT HOURS lol.

Anyhow the spring perch on the 1 side was rusted thru, then the otherside he admitted that he was overloaded with a cord of wood or something and when he turned into a gas station the spring perch snapped. He rigged it back togather with angle iron. I have no doubt the Frame was ATLEAST bent. Oh ans the "slight" knock that it supposedly had was more like an EXCESSIVE HAMMERING of atleast 2 different Rod bearings.

Needless to say i decided to PASS on this POS. This thread can be deleted with out hurting my feelings.
