I have a hard piece of vacuum hose (plastic) that comes out of the fire wall into a filter looking thing and a normal vacuum hose going to a vacuum ball looking thing. Where the the open port of the filter connect to also?

It's a check valve so the vacuum ball, which stores vacuum so the climate control vents don't change position with varied engine load, doesn't release all of the vacuum when the engine load increases (low vacuum). The disconnected leg on yours goes to the intake manifold. The hard tubing goes into the cab for the climate control.

AutoZone should have some available. You want to ask about vacuum TUBE connectors, specifically, not vacuum line.
