I was going to put a different response, but decided the high road is the better road. I will just say this, you haven't seen what the previous owner did to the truck when they swapped the blown 305 out for the 350, which as I'm sure you know, and just overlooked, is not carbureted but TBI in an 87.

As it's my truck and my pandoras box of problems I would prefer to take it all out and start fresh. And while I realize my mechanical acumen must not be anywhere near yours since you have so many 350's in your fleet, as someone who has successfully completed a few swaps in my time, I am ok with and up to the task of chasing my own demons as opposed to the sins of the previous owner.

I will say that while the vast majority of folks on this forum are super nice and supportive I'm glad to see that there are still random snipers here that would rather shoot folks down for taking a different path with their builds/projects. All is right in the world of automotive forums.

I think it's just because your post made it seem like you were going to LS swap it because you COULDN'T get it to run reliably... rather than you didn't WANT to since an LS swap was going to be happening anyway.

I get it. I once kicked off a suspension and axle swap project earlier than intended because I had a front hub lock go on the fritz, lol.

I'm not blaming the machine, but what the PO did to it.

Nail on the head, I wanted to band aid it and drive it this summer, but if I'm going to throw cash and time into it then I want to do it once and do it right, and get rid of the "mods" the PO put in place.

In reality, I likely won’t for a few reasons but none of which are because I don’t appreciate the virtues of 21st century technology that is relatively easily achievable.

Some people don't know how to work on carburetors, some don't do sensors. I will admit the vehicles with sensors have proven more reliable, but when something goes wrong I don't know how to diagnose them.
Besides, when the apocalypse happens and an EMP wipes out tech, all I need to get my carbed truck running is a dry battery and a bottle of battery acid.

This is a huge problem these days. Cant say anything! Even lighthearted, without being a villain of some sort.

That's why I just say what I want to say. If people can't handle it, it ain't my problem, just like I said.

I hate the thought process/notion of, oh my carbed whatever, leaked some coolant, then died in the parking lot, time to ls swap!!

If you can't get a carbed vehicle to be reliable, then doing an ls swap is definitely gonna do nothing, will probably make things worse 9/10 times. If the swap even gets finished in the first place lol

People somehow get it in their head that these old vehicles weren't all that was available back in the day, that people didn't drive them 100's of thousands of miles, all weather conditions and elevations. 70's and 80's cars are still plenty fit for today's world and roads, even as they were without mods.

Battery is only needed if she's an automatic, pop start that b*tch and let it roll.......

But anyways good to be back and see things are the same here. Did some stuff to the truck only to get it inspected for another year. Found a header blew a hole clean through it on the passengers side. Chased that leak for a few days thinking it was the collector gasket, then the header gasket at the head but nope ugh. Got a new set of headers ordered through Summit, will get em on here in a week or so when I go on call so the truck has some down time. Found one of the supporting crossmembers in the rear of the frame broke and another is completely missing, again dealing with the demons of the PO and fixing things they did. Got the oem grille back in it, thinking of going with a two tone scheme with it to match the body colors, pics to come later when/if it gets done. But yeah, it's good to be back lurking on the forums
