Were Wooden Beds Painted at Factory?

Sorry to be responding late; I skimmed through the responses without really reading them.

I installed about 900,000 pickup boxes on the assembly line (in Flint) between 1979 and 1986. The wood (and the metal strips) inside the bed were painted body color.

I also owned a '69 GMC and an '80 Chevy stepside; both were built in Flint and both of those were painted.

Digging up and old thread here to add my .02.

I'm the original owner of a 1980 C10 stepside. The wooden bed was NOT painted when I picked it up at the dealer.

I cannot explain this. Are you saying the wood was "raw"? What about the metal strips between the wood?

I have to claim poor memory in this case. I don't recall that the wood was painted. The strips, of course, were. Then again, I don't recall what I had for lunch yesterday.
