Picked up a Warn Classic winch bumper, it came off of a 97 silverado. my question is will it fit my 86, or will i need to modify it to fit my truck?

97 front was a lot rounder then 86, probably won't just bolt up and if you can make brackets would it look right there. Pics would definitely help.

I had a front receiver with a 15K lb Mile Marker on my 86 truck - it was a great thing to have except Mile Marker electric winches suck! The brush rigging is made of inferior rust prone steel. The brushes were constantly hanging up.

Anyway - trust me on this - you cannot buy an "off the shelf" front 2" receiver for these trucks. You will have to get just a universal receiver and do some welding modifications. To mount it requires that you drill some holes in your frame.

It is not that hard though and it is really worth having that front mounted winch.

Here is a picture that shows the receiver without the winch (I'll try to find a picture with the winch mounted)

Driver, did that bumper come off of a newer body style?

My question really is, will some "spacers" if you wish be a good idea to put in between the bumper brackets and the frame? its only about 1.5'' or 2'' of space.

No, that bumper was made to fit a square, but we sat it up against a gmt400, and we would have had to cut the grill up for the winch to set in it.

My cousin did this very thing, he took a chrome warn classic for an 88-98 truck and made it fit his 84 k10. He had to cut alot off of the sides to get the center tucked close in. Of course he still had to make brackets and in the end it wasn't worth it IMO. It still didn't look that great. But the bumper was free so he made it work.

The trimming would be the easy part. The newer bumper is swept back to follow the lines of the newer style truck, where as the older trucks are flat across the front. You have to cut a good bit off the bumper to get it strait and tucked in close to the truck but that should be pretty strait forward. The part I would be nervous about would be making strong brackets to hold it on. He made his and the held, but I would make sure they were overkill. I hope this helps.
