Can anybody tell me what this plug is used for? It’s next to the brake booster.

Easy, that plug is designed transfer power. That's what those 3 little metal prongs are for.

Ha.

But really, I would check the other side of the firewall and see where the wires go.

If its OEM, someone here might be able to answer. If its aftermarket, then you probably gotta trace the wires to find out.

It is a 3 pin connector right?

This is from the 1983 wiring manual, don’t have a 1982 manual.

Only two things I found at a glance that use a 3 pin (cavity) bulkhead through the firewall.
