No, the crossmember won’t work without spacers etc. The 1 ton crossmember is almost flat whereas the 1/2 and 3/4 ton crossmembers have about 4” or so of drop designed into them.

GM didn’t use the D80 in squares so the seller is either wrong or it’s not original. The truck would have come with a narrow 63” 14 bolt if it was a cab & chassis or a wide 74” D70HD if it was a pick up (a 1/2 or 3/4 ton rear would be 68”, wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface).

If it’s a narrow 14 bolt you can add 2” wheel spacers and get to 67” which it close enough to probably not be noticeable. If it’s a D70HD there’s nothing you can do to narrow it except cut the housing. If it actually is a D80 you’ll just have to start measuring as it likely came from a Ford or Dodge.

Also, the DRW front axle would need the bearing hubs replaced to make it SRW.

If the price is right, the DRW front axle could be worth getting but either rear is going to take extra effort.
Good day, you mentioned DRW change to a SRW, I’m not sure what those initials stand for and what’s involved doing this…?

SRW = single rear wheel
DRW = dual rear wheel

dont just dismiss the front dana 60, if its cheap enough consider getting it, they are getting difficult and spendy, you might be able to sell it and offset the cost of the other stuff your buying pretty substantily, dually ones dont go for as much as single wheel units go for, but on CL around me people ask $1500-$2000 for them.

Good advice and I’m definitely serious about getting that also thanks… Sunday is the day… he says it’s got 4.10 gears… checking my current setup tomorrow and cross my fingers they will match… I know it’s geared low but not 4.56 low

Well that makes sense, thanks… think I’ll skip the rear diff and make a run for the front… sounds like that would be a great upgrade
Thanks yet again

Probably. I believe it is however the D60 and D70 axles use the same cover and the D44 has the same shape it's just smaller so it can be hard to tell. Any other pics of the axle?

Sorry these are these aren’t probably the pictures you want but it’s what I have currently… smaller ujoint on this diff with a larger one coming off of the transfer case and this I believe is the original front diff off of a 1976 K25 if that helps

No doubt, that is a D44 - NOT a D60.

A D60 only has one u-bolt on the diff side, D60's do not use the 3 bolt horse shoe shaped steering arm and a D60 has a 4 bolt cap on the top & bottom of the steering knuckles, not a single nut.

Those pics are perfect, they show the absolute identifiers of the axle(s) in question.

lol well I had no idea I was taking the right pics, that’s awesome thank you… the Dana 60 I’m looking at on Sunday would be an upgrade then? I checked the ratio on this dana44 and it’s the same as the dana60, 4.10
